What you need to know before your visit
At Al Hammam, we offer authentic hammam experiences in Athens and Chania, designed for
relaxation, exfoliation, renewal and deep body care.
Upon arrival, our team will guide you according to the service you have selected. We provide
everything you need for your hammam experience: a peştemal towel to cover your body,
slippers, a kese exfoliating glove and soap.
For your comfort, you may bring your own swimsuit. If you do not have one, we can provide
disposable underwear.
If you have any health condition, please inform us when making your booking or upon arrival
at reception.
Opening Hours
Al Hammam is open daily, Monday to Sunday, from 13:00 to 21:00.
We recommend booking in advance, especially for weekends, holidays and peak hours.
What is a hammam?
A hammam is a traditional steam bath experience that combines warmth, water, exfoliation,
cleansing and relaxation. Depending on the service you choose, your experience may include
exfoliation with a kese glove, olive oil soap foam cleansing, hair washing, massage or other
wellness rituals.
What is included in a hammam experience?
Depending on the selected service, the experience may include time in the warm hammam
room, body exfoliation, rinsing, foam cleansing, hair washing and massage.
We provide a peştemal towel, slippers, kese exfoliating glove, soap, towels and access to
changing rooms, showers and a personal locker.
What should I bring with me?
You may bring your swimsuit if you wish. If you do not have one, we provide disposable
underwear.
You do not need to bring anything else. Towels, slippers, personal lockers, showers and basic
care products such as shampoo, conditioner and body lotion are available on site.
How should I prepare before my hammam experience?
We recommend arriving a few minutes early, so you have enough time to change and prepare
comfortably.
It is also recommended to drink water before your visit and avoid having a heavy meal
immediately before your hammam experience.
How long does a hammam session last?
The duration depends on the service you choose. Most hammam experiences last between 60
and 90 minutes.

What happens during the experience?
You will first spend some time in the warm hammam room, allowing your body to relax and
prepare for the treatment. You may sit or lie on the warm marble surfaces and pour warm or
cool water over your body.
Then, depending on the service you have selected, your therapist will guide you through the
different stages of the ritual, such as kese exfoliation, rinsing, olive oil soap foam cleansing,
hair washing and/or massage.
Is the hammam mixed?
Yes. Our hammam is mixed and is open to both men and women.
There is no longer a specific women-only day.
Is private hammam available?
Yes, private hammam or exclusive-use hammam is available, depending on availability and
the service you choose.
Private use has a different charge and should be requested when making your booking.
Even when the hammam is not booked privately, treatments are performed with discretion in
a specially designed area.
Is hammam suitable for everyone?
Hammam is generally suitable for most guests. However, it is not recommended without
medical advice for people with heart conditions, serious respiratory issues, severe low blood
pressure, skin conditions or other significant medical concerns.
If you are unsure, please consult your doctor before visiting and inform us when making your
booking.
Can I visit the hammam if I am pregnant?
Pregnant women should consult their doctor before visiting the hammam, as heat and
humidity may not be suitable in all cases.

Can I visit the hammam with my family?
Yes, you may visit the hammam with your family. Children are welcome from the age of 8
and above.
For family bookings, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can suggest the most
suitable service.
Are the therapists male or female?
At Al Hammam, we work with both female and male therapists, depending on schedule and
availability.
If you have a specific preference, please mention it when booking and we will do our best to
accommodate your request.
Can I talk inside the hammam?
The hammam is a place of relaxation and calm. You may speak quietly, while respecting the
atmosphere and the experience of other guests.
What products do you use?
We use products suitable for the hammam experience, such as olive oil soap, kese exfoliating
gloves and selected body care products.
If you have allergies, sensitivities or specific skin concerns, please inform us before your
service.
Do I need to book in advance?
Yes, we recommend booking in advance, especially for weekends, holidays and peak hours.

What is the best time for a more relaxed hammam experience?
For a quieter and more relaxed experience, we recommend visiting between 13:00 and 17:00,
depending on daily availability.
Can I change or cancel my booking?
Yes, you may change or cancel your booking according to Al Hammam’s cancellation policy.
For changes or cancellations, please contact reception in advance.
Are there any additional charges?
No. When choosing your service, you can see the duration and price in advance, as displayed
in the service description and price list.
Additional charges apply only if you choose an extra service, upgrade or private use.
How can I pay?
You can pay at Al Hammam reception by cash or by credit/debit card, including Visa and
Mastercard.
Gift Cards can be paid for online.

In the heart of Plaka, under the Acropolis.
Al Hammam Chania – Old Venetian Harbour
By the Old Venetian Harbour of Chania.
